Hey everyone, I'm working on a logo for a new local coffee roastery and I'm hitting a wall. I want the design to feel warm and community-focused, but everything I sketch just ends up looking like a generic coffee cup or bean. How do you create a simple mark that feels unique and conveys a deeper meaning without being overly complex? I feel like I'm missing some core principles here. Any advice would be awesome.

Oh, I totally get that struggle! It's so easy to fall into those cliché visual traps. Moving from a literal object to a symbolic representation is the real key. I was stuck in the same place until I found a fantastic resource that breaks down the psychology and theory behind effective marks. You should definitely check out this deep dive on logos symbol and how they can communicate complex ideas through shape, form, and negative space. It completely changed my approach and helped me think more conceptually. Good luck with the roastery project, it sounds cool!
